Columbia University Lecture "During Construction"

Added on by carla juacaba.

Winner of the inaugural ArcVision Prize for Women and Architecture Rio de Janeiro-based architect Carla Juaçaba presents her multi-faceted work, including Pavilion Humanidade, a pavilion built for Rio Mas 2012, a UN conference on sustainable development. A collaboration with artist Bia Lessa, the structure was constructed from recycled scaffolding on a historic fort that juts between Copacabana and Ipanema Beaches and features conference rooms, exhibition spaces, and an auditorium. Juaçaba's residential projects, such as her Rio Bonito House combine stone walls, steel support beams, and skylights to simultaneously evoke weight and weightlessness. Response by Kenneth Frampton.
